Power plant – the long-term challenge

Elkuch power plant doors are heavy-duty access systems for underground power stations, hydroelectric caverns, pumped storage facilities and critical energy infrastructure buildings — engineered by the Elkuch Group to address the specific access, safety and pressure management requirements of large-scale power generation infrastructure. The Elkuch Group’s competencies in steel engineering and door systems for critical infrastructure, developed over 60 years of railway and road tunnel projects, translate directly to the requirements of underground power generation facilities.

Underground power stations — particularly pumped hydro and run-of-river hydroelectric facilities — involve large underground cavern structures with access tunnels, cable shafts, ventilation galleries and equipment access points. The doors and gates at these openings must manage blast and pressure differentials from turbine and generator operations, provide emergency escape route compliance, compartmentalise fire risks in facilities with significant electrical fire loads, and operate reliably under infrequent maintenance access conditions with very long service life expectations.
