The merger consolidated Elkuch’s road and rail tunnel engineering expertise under a single organisation, allowing the Elkuch Group to address the full spectrum of tunnel door requirements from a single technical authority.

Road tunnels impose different structural demands on door systems than railway tunnels. The pressure loads from road traffic are lower than those from high-speed rail, but the fire load — from vehicle fires, particularly heavy vehicle and fuel tanker fires — is significantly higher. Road tunnel door systems must simultaneously serve as fire compartmentation barriers, smoke control elements, emergency rescue access points and routine maintenance entry points — often a single door installation serves all four functions.
