Thermal Protection and Security in One Seamless System

The Gliderol cyclonic roller shutter is an industrial roller shutter engineered for installation in Australian cyclone zones — Wind Regions C and D under AS/NZS 1170.2 — where the extreme wind pressures and debris loads of a direct cyclonic event would cause catastrophic failure of standard industrial shutters. Manufactured by Gliderol Doors Singapore (GDS Global), the same company whose blast shutter was designed using FEA and shock tube testing, the cyclonic shutter brings an engineering discipline to wind load design that most roller shutter manufacturers do not apply.

In Australian northern and coastal regions, the NCC mandates that all external closures on buildings in designated cyclone wind regions meet the wind pressure ratings defined in AS/NZS 1170.2 for the relevant site classification. Standard industrial roller shutters are rarely classified and tested to these wind pressure levels — they are designed for general industrial use and their wind resistance is limited by the standard guide rail and curtain lamella dimensions. When the wind load exceeds the design limit, the curtain lamellae buckle, the guides fail and the shutter opening becomes exposed to the full cyclone wind and debris load — at which point the internal building pressure differential can cause the roof and wall structure to fail from inside.
